Who is eligible to be a HOSA advisor?
Typically, the chapter advisor is a teacher in the building who teaches in the health sciences, sciences, or a related subject. Some chapters have a school nurse or counselor as their advisor. The school administration must approve the advisor.
I'm a new advisor. How do I start?
Reach out to the Nebraska HOSA State Advisor to introduce yourself and request to be added to the advisor listserv. This website and hosa.org are great resources to learn more.
Is there training available for advisors?
Yes! In December 2024, HOSA launched the online HOSA Advisor Development Program. It is a helpful resource for both new advisors and those wanting to learn more about best practices.
Where do I find HOSA updates?
The main source of communication and updates for advisors is through the HOSA Advisor Listserv. All advisors are eligible to join and should reach out the state advisor to be added. This website and the HOSA.org website are also great resources.
What are HOSA chapter requirements?
The formation of a HOSA chapter must be approved following a school's new student organization processes. Every HOSA chapter must have a school-approved advisor and at least five members, all of which need to be officially affiliated. There are no required events that chapters must attend, although all events are open to all members.
How do I integrate HOSA into health science courses?
HOSA-Future Health Professionals is a co-curricular Career and Technical Student Organization. It offers the most value to students when integrated into the health science classroom.
This crosswalk of the HOSA Competitive Events to Nebraska Health Science Standards shows alignment between the two. Educators can take rubrics from the competitive event guidelines and utilize them for their classes. The State Advisor is available to support educators with the process of integrating HOSA.
